7.30am The cooks get up and start to prepare breakfast. Each camper takes a turn, in small groups, to act as cook for the day.
7.45am Everyone else gets up and dressed.
8.00am Breakfast time. Breakfast normally consists of toast, jam, cereals and fruit.
8.30am The morning meeting. This is our chance to formally meet as a group. Here the leaders will tell you what jobs you are going to be doing today, as well as anything different happening today. Perhaps a trustee of the charity is coming to visit, or we might be having a tour of the Cathedral, or even be organising a trip to the bowling alley for this evening.
8.45am We set off for the Cathedral. Once we've arrived you'll pick up the tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) you will need for this morning's job. The cooks will stay behind to clear away breakfast, and then go out to buy food for the next 24 hours.
9.00am Start work. You might be painting a fence, railings or some benches, doing some gardening, sweeping up pigeon guano, polishing some of the Cathedral's precious silver or sweeping a turret. You will never be asked to work on your own, but you will generally work in a group of between 2 and 5.
10.30am Time for a well deserved break, a drink of tea, coffee or squash and some biscuits to keep up those energy levels.
11.00am Back to work. You'll probably carry on with what you were doing this morning. Depending on the job, the leaders will either be with you, or will regularly come and see how you are doing. If you get stuck, they'll be there to help out, and give tips.
12.30pm Lunch time. We will have sandwiches, crisps and fruit. There is always a good choice to make sure there is something for everyone. We might have something special too, perhaps something left from dinner last night. After lunch there's a chance to catch breath before we go back to work.
1.30pm This afternoon you'll be doing something different to this morning, and working with different people too. Perhaps this afternoon you might be involved in some delicate conservation work, be high on a scaffolding tower cleaning those hard to reach places or scrubbing a floor. If don't feel comfortable working at height, that's fine, just let one of your leaders know, and they'll find a different job for you.
3.00pm Afternoon tea break. Perhaps this afternoon we might get some cake out, or another treat.
3.30pm Back to work, for the final session of the day. You'll be working on the same task as earlier in the afternoon. If you finish a section early you might be asked to help another group get their job to a logical pausing point. It's really important that the Cathedral is left clean and tidy, ready for Evensong, and tomorrow's early morning services. Meanwhile the cooks will be cleaning the accommodation, and double-checking their plans for dinner.
5.00pm The end of the working day. Time to reflect on a job well done. Now there is a little time to relax, and have a shower before dinner. The cooks will be beavering away in the kitchen making sure your evening meal is delicious.
6.30pm Dinner time. This will be a warm meal and a pudding. This is a good chance to share your experiences of the day and congratulate the cooks on all their hard work. Once dinner is over we'll all work together to get the washing up done, and the kitchen ready for the new group of cooks tomorrow.
Evening Once the washing up is finished the evening is free for you to do what you'd like. We might all do something together, or the Cathedral might have organised something for us to do with them. The leaders will have told you what time you need to be back in tonight, in order to make sure we all get enough sleep before we start again tomorrow morning!
