Gold Duke of Edinburgh Residential Courses
There are spaces remaining for most of our 2011 weeks.
The Camps meet the requirements of the Gold Award Residential Project in full and provide the opportunity to learn about new areas of the UK, discover more about the nations history, meet people from across the country and abroad and much much more.
You’ll be mixed in with other young people from across the country and Europe, and have the opportunity to take part in an exciting week of development and team work.
No prior experience required. The price shown includes all accommodation, meals, equipment and supervision.
If you’ve lots of energy and enthusiasm and relish new opportunities, then this is the week for you. All our previous campers talk about the life-long memories they have made and the new friendships they have developed over their week away at a Cathedral Camp!
Why not come and try new challenges and make new friends with other young people from across the country? For more details visit our Summer Camps page.
Meet our Camp Leader: Chloe Taylor
'I first took part in a camp for the residential part of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh in 2007.
It was so much fun, our projects included cleaning bones excavated from the grounds of the Cathedral and painting the bells in the tower, which was so different to anything I'd ever done. Learning about the history of Worcester Cathedral was really interesting and it was good meeting people from so many different countries.
My leaders were great, there were lots of games and activities in the evenings and the end of week fancy dress party was a real highlight!
When a friend mentioned leading a camp this summer I jumped at the chance. I am hugely looking forward to running the camp at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle and attempting to make it as fun and interesting as the one I went on.'
Chloe Taylor is 23 years old and lives in Essex. She will be leading her first Camp at St George's Chapel this summer.
Meet Our Leader: Laurie Slavin
I first got involved with Cathedral Camps for my gold Duke of Edinburgh Award Residential in 2009. While some of my friends had chosen to go sailing for theirs and others to do cooking courses in France I decided that I wanted to do something that would, not only be interesting and enjoyable, but something that would also contribute to helping a community.
To date I have participated in two camps: one at Ely Cathedral in 2009 as a camper and one at St Albans Cathedral in 2010 as a leader. After seeing just how much of a difference these camps can make to the Cathedral and after realising just how much fun they can be I couldn’t wait to come back and lead. Given the skills that I have gained from painting, to gardening, to cooking and the friends that I have made, I can’t wait to come back to do another camp in 2011.
Laurie will be leading at All Hallows by the Tower, London (3rd-10th August 2011)
What does it cost?
Every volunteer pays £155 for a one week camp. This price includes all food, accommodation and equipment. Some extra spending money will be required. Volunteers must provide their own travel to and from each camp at the start and end.
Can I attend a Camp with a friend?
Camps are great places to make new friends, so don't worry about not knowing anyone. If you do want to attend a camp with friends we will accept bookings for up to 3 friends but all the applications must be submitted seperately with an accompanying email. We can not guarantee friends will be placed together once the camps start to fill up.
How do I apply?
You can find all the information you need on our Apply to Cathedral Camps page.
Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please note that no place on a camp is guaranteed until payment is received.
