13th - 14th June, ReFresh comes to Wentworth in Rotherham to assist with a Civil War re-enactment!
This is the ideal voluntary activity for anyone who is interested in Heritage or Events Management
The partially ruined Old Trinity Church (in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust) lies at the heart of the beautiful stone built village of Wentworth.
Each year, in conjunction with the Sealed Knot, the Trust organises a 'Living History' weekend, recreating life in the 17th century.
The chancel of the church is crammed with memorials to the Wentworth family of the period, including Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, executed just prior to the outbreak of the Civil War for being a loyal supporter of King Charles.
The re-enactment will run each day from 10am to 4pm. There will be a band of musicians on site to entertain visitors and on 14th there will a display by an award winning local author.
Young people (16-25 years) are needed to help on the day:
Setting up in the morning and pack up in the evening. - Stewarding the event - momnitoring visitor numbers ( with clicker) and signing visitor book/questionaires to provide data to improve event.
- Manning refreshments - cold drinks etc.
Handing out flieres in the village to encourage visitors (with costumed re-enactors in attendance)
