ReFresh: Shoreham

Shoreham Church

On Saturday 16th May, 30+ volunteers turned up to make a difference to Shoreham's St Peter & St Paul Church Garden, Kent.

The day ran from 11am to 5pm. Young people dominated the show, taking charge of clearing the grounds, planting bulbs and shrubs, and clearing ivy from the gravestones.

At 5pm the local MP, Michale Fallon, arrived to hand out certificates to all the young people involved and local organisers put on a BBQ for the volunteers.

Here are some pictures of the day:

Volunteers working to clean up the old tombs. Both these tombs were completely covered in ivy at the start of the day. It was impossible to tell what or who they were memorials to. By the end of the day both tombs had been entirely cleared of overgrowth, and volunteers were able to read the inscriptions, and through this, learn more about the history of the village they live in.

At the end of the day volunteers received certificates from the local MP as a token of appreciation and recognition of the work they had done in the church grounds. The MP spoke about the importance of community activity and Dame Elisabeth Hoodless, the head of CSV, spoke about the wonderful work being achieved by young people in our communities.

On the Right you can see Nick and Ash, two of our team leaders receiving their certificates.
